Private infrastructure, Network Services & Fixed Public IPs

Secure communication for IoT and M2M applications

With IoT and M2M cellular connectivity, building a secure environment around the SIM and data is critical for all businesses.

Balancing the need for access and control with ever present commercial and reputational risks of SIM theft, fraud and unauthorised access requires effective and cost efficient infrastructure.

We offer a range of scalable solutions that overlay on our cellular connectivity to provide access, and secure communication with IoT applications – all managed through our SIM Management platform, SIMPro.

Private infrastructure as a service – NetPro

Our carrier grade private network, Netpro, provides smart and secure two-way connectivity allowing for data to be back-hauled from the mobile device and handed off to your location securely via a range of VPN options.

Solutions can be deployed in days, have full geo-redundancy and benefit from private APN Interconnects with over 30 mobile operators.

It represents a highly cost-effective and reliable solution for customers wishing to avoid major investment in their own IT architecture, leased lines and support infrastructure.

What is it and how does it work?
SIMs are assigned a fixed private IP address and utilise the same CGNAT (Carrier-grade Network Address Translation) as the public APNs to provide internet access.  We then utilise our systems to provide detailed usage data to customers in real-time across all of the network operators we integrate with, through our single management platform, SIMPro.

Customers that need secure VPN infrastructure but don’t require redundant VPN connections.

What is it and how does it work?
Policy based IPSec technology is the standard network protocol to support encryption and authentication policies to enforce network security across business infrastructure.

We assign an IP Pool to the SIM and apply a fixed private IP address from within that pool. Traffic is then configured to route via an IPSEC VPN from our geographically separated firewalls back to a customer or cloud-based datacentre. This can be combined with Internet breakout or not as required.

Customers who need to create redundant VPN connections where the firewall is predominantly in route/NAT mode.

What is it and how does it work?
A route based VPN creates a virtual IPSec interface to encrypt and decrypt data traffic to securely route to an IP destination address.

Broadly the same as our policy-based solution but with the added benefit of supporting multiple customer or cloud datacentre links with failover managed via Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) or similar routing protocols. Again this can be combined with Internet Breakout as required.

Open VPN solutions are ideal for cloud based servers where you do not have the capability to configure IPSEC VPN’s.

(where firewall is software based on a server)

What is it and how does it work?
We assign a pool of IP’s to the customers SIM and issue a fixed IP address from this pool. We then provide an OpenVPN client which will enable one or more of your servers to receive a fixed address within our network.

This enables two way communication with those servers without the need for firewall infrastructure.

This can be combined with Internet Breakout as required.

Businesses that need to enable remote users to securely access internal resources and intranet.

What is it and how does it work?
Devices with an internet connection are enabled to establish a secure remote-access VPN connection with a web browser.

A pool of addresses is assigned to the customer, with a fixed IP address from this pool assigned to each SIM. An SSL VPN connection which can be deployed to PC’s Laptops, tablets, or mobile phones typically to enable your engineering teams direct access to the devices, while continuing to provide the devices with Internet access via CGNAT (Carrier-grade Network Address Translation)

Sensor networks or systems (i.e. agricultural or traffic management) where sensors need to communicate with mobile connected out-stations.

What is it and how does it work?
The solution creates a secure system by enabling hubs to communicate with one or more spokes and vice versa.  To keep data flows secure, hubs are not permitted to talk to other hubs and spokes cannot talk to other spokes.

What is it and how does it work?
A physical connection, point to point cable providing high resilience and security for network access.

With infrastructure in 11 major data centres, Wireless Logic can implement direct interconnects for nearly all customers.

Customers that require highly resilient connectivity across multiple carriers via a single VPN interonnect.

What is it and how does it work?
In addition to standard solutions that use our existing APN’s, we also offer customers dedicated APNs which can be configured to specific requirements. This delivers multi-carrier choice via a single VPN interconnect

Public IP Services

Applying a dynamic Public IP or Fixed Public IP to a SIM, can be a suitable solution depending on the needs of your application.

Although these solutions are typically a lower cost than private infrastructure solutions, they do come with associated security risks that should be actively managed.

Our ‘10 steps to securing your IoT application‘ article sets out some of the ways that you can minimise security risks for IoT applications.

Applications where access and control are needed from any machine, anywhere. A VPN tunnel is not required.

An ideal solution for customers who do not have a firewall. As it’s open for anyone to connect to if they know the IP address, security is the responsibility of the user or company.

What is it and how does it work?
We assign a fixed public IP address to a SIM and then configure with a one to one NAT address both of which remain the same for the lifetime of the SIM.

This solution enables access to the SIM from the open internet (over a private APN) but can be more susceptible to hacking and fraud without the right controls.

Applications that only require user equipment initiated outbound data sessions

What is it and how does it work?

All SIMs on NetPro can be given Internet access. This provides users with communication from their mobile devices to the internet with the only restriction being that sessions must be initiated by the mobile device.

Mobile operators will typically issue a dynamic IP address (one which changes for each session) via a public APN and then utilise Carrier Grade NAT (CGNAT) to assign a dynamic public IP address for Internet Access.
