Just Eat is a growing FTSE 100 online food order and delivery brand. It acts as an intermediary between independent food vendors and customers, operating in thirteen countries in Europe, Asia, Australia and the Americas.
The online ordering platform is essential to the success of Just Eat’s business model. But, historically there was a reliance of over-burdened fixed-lines resulting in missed orders and delays in serving customers. This rapidly growing brand needed guaranteed IoT connectivity in the hands of its take away restaurant partners
Just Eat pioneered the development of its ‘Just Connect’ box – designed to remove the need for fixed-line connectivity. It comprised a GPRS modem, small thermal printing device and crucially, a Wireless Logic data SIM. The box was distinct in that it featured ‘feedback and confirmation buttons’ that allowed the restaurant to accept, decline or modify orders, there and then, mitigating any delay.
Each embedded SIM is activated upon the signing of the service contract, so are active as soon as installed within each restaurant.
In this way, for the first time, restaurants are given a two-way communication device, via a secure fixed IP address. This gives Just Eat greater control over the service offered by its participating restaurants – an opportunity to respond to, and modify, orders if necessary.
The Just Connect system has been recently upgraded to a newly launched ‘Orderpad’ tablet with built-in printer. Wireless Logic provides the connectivity which works off both wi-fi and cellular, as a back-up solution.
Now using a blend of local and roaming SIMs with the new system, data usage has increased from 3mb to 20mb per month, per device. All SIMs have a private APN.
Taking full control
Just Eat now has many tens of thousands of subscriptions across the globe. And there is a greater reliance on our SIM Management Platform SIMPro. This gives Just Eat complete visibility of its data usage and state of devices in the field. It shows whether they are active or not, or when last logged on.
SIMPro enables Just Eat to view its entire connected estate, globally. It also means that billing can be localised on a country by country basis – so that the entire invoicing process is seamless, simple and rapid.
With tiered access, individual countries can view their Orderpad data usage and activity on a local level – whereas Just Eat HQ can monitor the entire estate.
Optimising global network choice
Getting the right balance of networks for Just Eat’s global requirements meant using the three main UK networks along with SFR, Bouygue, Telefonica, Orange, Telenor and 3 Ireland. Vodafone Global is used in Australia and Italy.

The fact of having all our SIM cards with Wireless Logic allows us to work in a more efficient way and have the costs controlled, whatever operator and rate. Thanks to the SIMPro system, we can autonomously manage each of the lines, an aspect of vital importance given the Just Eat business model.
