There are multiple ways of routing the information from your M2M SIMs in the field to a back-end system. Historically, companies have used Public APNs provided by the Network operators to route the information over the Internet, but nearly all have found as their usage increases, so too does the support burden and their dependence upon the network being available 24/7.

As growth and usage increases, application delivery becomes more critical; a reliable connectivity solution is imperative. With public services not coming with credible service level agreements this standard is not acceptable for companies running thousands of devices. For many, the move to a private service network such as Wireless Logic is the answer.

Manage Net Logo

ManageNet. A secure, private data network.

Wireless Logic can help System Integrators and clients deliver data more cost-effectively and reliably. We achieve this by overlaying private secure communication solutions onto the global network infrastructure, without the need for clients to make a major investment in complex IT architecture, connectivity or having in-house specialist engineers.

To maximise the value of wireless connectivity, Wireless Logic has invested extensively and created a secure, fast, low cost private network - an infrastructure we call ManageNet.

By constructing such a network, we are able to offer a cost effective and secure alternative to businesses investing in their own private infrastructure. Thereby eliminating the high costs for leased lines and on-going service.

Outside of cost, ease of management and deployment, ManageNet has many strengths.

ManageNet applies fixed IP addressing to mobile terminals to enable secure routing from Wireless Logic's Infrastructure to the remote user's LAN. ManageNet’s ability to deploy a fixed IP address to a mobile device or module enables that device to be passive in communications. For instance a user could securely retrieve data from a machine instead of relying on it to be sent. This approach has great advantages in the M2M world from a cost and infrastructure perspective, and would not be feasible without ManageNet.

Private Connectivity – How it works

Manage Net In Action

  • After Wireless Logic's APNs have been provisioned on the user's SIM, the device is assigned a username and password on Wireless Logic's Radius Servers.
  • The user can then make a GPRS connection and the device is authenticated by a combination of the Radius username and password and the MSISDN number, and assigned an IP address that will allow direct routing onto the customer's LAN.
  • Once authenticated at a Network Level, TCP/IP connections can be established in both directions freely based on the Access Lists or policies set on both Wireless Logic and the Customer's Firewall across an Internet Standard IPSec Tunnel.
  • The connection to the customers back end systems can be now be made and at this stage application layer security can be applied if required by the customer's Information Security Policy.

Business solutions

ManageNet is a complete end-to-end service operating in a totally seamless and secure way. There are minimal upfront costs for businesses and a fixed fee per user per month thereafter, ensuring that all costs are manageable and predictable.

A solution like this overcomes some of the issues System Integrator’s and customers face when considering wireless connectivity.

  • High set up costs
There is no need for customers to purchase leased lines at a cost of £5,000 to £15,000, or servers and software at an approximate cost of £11,000. Wireless Logic has already made that investment and has high capacity leased lines from its Harbour Exchange Data Centre into the networks of the major Operators. Businesses can therefore piggyback on an existing infrastructure experiencing the same connectivity speeds and an equally reliable service.
  • Easily manageable
Businesses with little in-house support will not have the worry of complicated installation process and on-going management issues. Wireless Logic is able to manage the service from beginning to end and provide one-telephone call assistance for all technical support issues.
  • Security
Wireless Logic adheres to all customers’ existing security policies. On top of that, static IP addressing and VPN’s provide a combination of a firewall, security protocols and encryption that create a private tunnel through the Internet.
  • Proof of concept
Before initial installation, organisations may require a trial to ensure the network and products deliver the right level of performance. While providing devices and airtime is relatively simple, providing cost effective connectivity for trial is not. ManageNet overcomes this issue by providing a low cost option that can be implemented typically within 48hrs.

Business benefits

Wireless Logic’s ManageNet solution is designed for companies with remote or mobile devices, who need to connect to corporate systems via the Internet with increased reliability and security.

VPN remote services allow businesses to focus on their core network while Wireless Logic monitors and maintains the Wireless Virtual Private Network (VPN).

Why IP VPN Remote Services?

  • Global reach
Wireless access in more than 400 countries – seamlessly.
  • Network Compatibility
Works across 3G, GPRS and GSM without the need for any cables.
  • Outstanding service
Up to 24x7 centralized monitoring and management, award-winning customer service, and industry-leading service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Access agnostic
IP VPN Remote Services support end user connectivity from a variety of access methods, including dial, DSL, Leased Lines and MPLS.
  • Multiple tunnelling standards
The extranet switches are flexible enough to support a variety of standards-based tunneling protocols such as L2TP, PPTP, and Internet Protocol Security (IPSec).
  • IPSec client included
The feature-rich, easy-to-use IPSec client allows an end user to create an IPSec-encrypted tunnel from the end user's Laptop to the switch at the customer's site.
  • Centralized Solution Management
Enterprise Service Management (ESM) used to self-administer end-users 24x7 and "push" policy and software updates directly to any PC.
  • Various levels of encryption
Choose from DES, 3-DES, and RC-4 encryption methods for varying security requirements.
  • Authentication services
Customer-provided or Wireless Logic-hosted RADIUS, internal LDAP, token integration, and X.509 certificates are all available for increased security for your VPN.
  • Access Manager
With ManageNet’s Access Manager easy-to-use software, you can manage, connect, and change access services quickly and easily from anywhere in the world as well as apply policy to end-users for increased user management and security.
  • Remote Services with collocation
Combines the features of collocation services with the VPN so you can retain control of your hosting equipment while benefiting from the network redundancy, reliability, and security that comes with Wireless Logic’s global IP network.

Public Fixed IP

Wireless Logic also offers fixed Public IP addresses allowing you to connect to your device from any machine anywhere. You do not need to set up a VPN tunnel. This is an ideal solution for customers who do not have a firewall. However, as it is a public IP address, the device is open for anyone to connect to if they know the IP address. Therefore, security is down to the individual user or company. If you have a 3G/GPRS router then it is highly recommended you set up a logon page so that unauthorised access can be stopped.
