WAP push is an open standard developed by the WAP Forum to provide an "SMS" style messaging service. Information can be sent via GPRS to a compatible device in real time. Users receive a message, similar to that of a text message containing the information sent to them.
Benefits
- Send a message in real-time to a single user or a group at a fraction of the cost of an SMS
- By transferring the information as GPRS data you save money against a standard SMS
- Flexible billing, including up to the minute information
- You can access information instantly on the device and there is no limitation to the amount of characters you can send
- It's simple - The user has no new technologies to learn
We strongly believe this to be a more cost effective solution to SMS and with the added advantage of the users only needing one device and benefiting from the critical messaging information generated by control centres to field workers.
Benefits and features of a WAP Push solution
- It's easy - Intelligent Client now means GPRS session is automatically established to increase user functionality
- Wap Push and Hosted email - The new service will be more advanced in that users will have the ability to see messages on the handset/phone
- Managers can also use the service to access the Exchange email through the preferred phone this will need us to be hosted a server next to the Northern Rail Exchange server
- Phones - We have sent over a phone recommendation sheet depending on the type of user, budget and ease of use which was sent over on Friday
- One Device - No need for users to carry a Pager and Phone
- It saves you money - By transferring the information as GPRS data you save money against a standard SMS
- It's better - You can access information instantly on the device and there is no limitation to the amount of characters you can read
- It's convenient - The users can receive messages day and night
- Prioritise messages according to urgency
- It's simple - The user has no new technologies to learn
- Improved usability - Seamless integration of the application, delivered content and the user task at hand
- One e-mail address is allocated per user
- Future proof - Works with any recommended GPRS handset
- Uses the latest 'always on' GPRS mobile technology - this means that:
- Users can access files and applications straight away, without waiting for dial-up and prolonged connection times
- Messages are viewed at greater speeds on mobile devices and can be manipulated by the users more quickly and easily
- Billing is based on the amount of data transmitted rather than pence per minute or per SMS charges. The user is only charged for manipulating messages and not time spent reading. The servers and software compress the data therefore cost of airtime is minimised significantly
- Cuts down administration as it is all available on one bill
- We can integrate the service next to your Exchange 2003 servers to deliver executives and managers with office email on the move as a more cost effective solution to Blackberry
